Consultancy

Helping you build better at sea.

My advice comes from a background of knowing how to do the engineering of a diverse range of port and marine operations with first-hand experience in tackling challenges of construction at sea from a range of perspectives : the contractor, the insurer, engineer, vessel designer and project developer.

Whilst I have sound understanding of the interaction of commercial, technical and logistical factors across a wide range of areas, some of which I have in-depth engineering knowledge and experience include: jacket, monopile and topsides installation, floating structure design, cable laying, turbine installation, heavy lifts, jacket launch, abnormal marine cargo transport, marine operations and modular construction.

Here are some of the key areas in which I assist clients:

  • Technical risk reviews - I have an extensive background in third-party due diligence for marine cargo and infrastructure project construction insurers as well as offshore wind and oil & gas project developers.

  • Design and development strategy - bring me along to ensure your design and development strategy is holistic, not just narrowly focussed on the engineering task, but considers the practical, commercial, logistical and supply chain constraints that's necessary to avoid surprises and for large infrastructure projects to succeed.

  • Technical authority - I can be on hand to support package teams with scopes of work, design decision making, logistics planning and the development of offshore transport or installation concepts.  I can competently advise on the construction offshore platforms, foundations, turbines, cables, high risk marine cargo transports, loadouts, heavy lifts and most marine operations.

  • Port development - Whether for offshore wind, decommissioning, oil & gas or modular onshore construction, I can competently advise on the most aspects that affect the operation or development of a support port. trans-shipment or marshalling base.

  • Construction campaign design - Whether its foundations, substations, turbines or cables I can develop an offshore construction plan with associated logistics and marshalling concepts appropriate to the current stage of a project's development. Most importantly, unlike an EPC contractor, I'm unconstrained by the need to prioritise the use my own vessels and can develop concepts that are flexible and vessel/contractor agnostic - therefore exploring all options and prioritising the best solution for the project and avoiding unnecessary and premature lock-in to a specific contractor or marine spread.

  • Feasibility/concept studies for floating structure design or any project with a marine or offshore construction logistics component.

  • Project management - I've managed teams completing engineering scopes of work both in-person and remotely.
